Description
The Fisherman, A Large 19th Century Leon Eugene Longepied (1849-1888) Singed Patinated Bronze Statue. H 33" x W 18". Note: The base is NOT included! About Artist: A pupil of Jules Cavelier, Mathurin Moreau and Jules Coutan at the Paris School of Fine Arts, Leon-Eugene Longepied exhibited for the first time at the Salon des artistes français in 1870. He was awarded a third class medal in 1880 and first class in 1882. Leon-Eugène Longepied had fought during the siege of Paris in 1870 and was, at his death, a captain in the 36th territorial infantry regiment. He died at his Paris home, rue Denfert-Rochereau, on October 13, 1888 and is buried in Paris in the Montparnasse cemetery, where his tomb is decorated with an allegory of La Sculpture, represented by a young woman in tears, veiled and lightly draped, seated in front of a funerary monument due to the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Antoine Champeil.
