Description
A Cassone is a term of a large Italian decorated chests made in Italy from the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries. This piece, circa the seventeenth century, features scroll carved foliate panels flanked by carved figural terminals. Uncertain of the wood type, but believed to be walnut.
Condition
No keys. Wear and distressing consistent with age and use. Repaired/altered at some point, with one of the hinges being repositioned and the feet being removed. Does still have the two clawed front feet and one of the back feet (not clawed). There is a biscuit repaired split in the lid, which is also cupped, with some damage to the corners and edges.
