Description
5.5x4 Fold-open card with a sketch of The Harvard Medical School from 1937. Inside is a typed note to Jim Wiggins, dated April 18, 1991, regarding a photo request. Signed at the conclusion in blue ink by Joseph E. Murphy. In very good condition. Joseph E. Murray was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1990. If an organ is unable to perform its task, a person cannot live normally without external help. Because the immune system rejects foreign bodies, transferring organs from one person to another was long thought impossible. However, in 1954 Joseph Murray avoided rejection using radiotherapy and immunosuppressants, successfully transplanting a kidney between identical twins. This paved the way for other organ transplants. This lot came from the Jim Wiggins collection we purchased in July 2022. Jim Wiggins accumulated the most unique and valuable autograph collection over a period of 70-plus years. He obtained his collection either in person or by writing to persons of fame and notoriety.Comes with a full Letter of Authenticity from Todd Mueller Authentics.
