Description
South America, Peru, Post-Conquest Period, ca. 16th to 18th century CE. A hand-carved stone canopa vessel shaped like a ram with a pair of curling horns flanking the head. Canopa vessels were filled with offerings and placed beneath animal pens as a protective talisman, and rams were not introduced to Peru until after the Spanish arrived. Size: 2.42" L x 1.43" W x 2.21" H (6.1 cm x 3.6 cm x 5.6 cm)

Condition
Professional repair and restoration to head and areas of neckline, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and minor softening to some finer details, otherwise in nice condition. Nice surface texture throughout. Previous inventory label beneath base.
