Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE and 500 CE. A group of wonderful, diverse, fired black pottery spindle whorl beads, each with different incised patterns consisting of circles, lines, and zoomorphic figures like birds and fish. The beads are presented in hues of red-orange, brown, and dark gray, making for a colorful arrangement! Size: 50.75" L (128.9 cm); (largest bead): 0.66" L x 0.37" W (1.7 cm x 0.9 cm)
Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Pottery beads are ancient; stringing is modern. Some beads with small nicks and chips, with softening to some finer details, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to most beads.
