This is a handsome bird's-eye plan of Nijmegen (Nymmegin) on the Waal River near the German border. Nijmegen is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The Valkhof Palace (Der Wassick Hoff), which was built by Charlemagne in the 8th century, is shows, and its can still be visited today. At right is the 13th century Gothic church Saint Stephen (S Steffens kerrich). French text on verso. From the Civitatis Orbis Terrarum.
