Item Details
Description
CZECHOSLOVAKIAN FIGHTER, PARTYZAN WWII GOLD BADGE + PIN
This GOLD version of the badge is extremely rare. Also available for sale is the stickpin, which comes from the same man who fought for the Czech underground during World War 2. It bears the early number 31. The Czech Partyzan badge is a nice-sized piece, and the stickpin accompanies it. The man settled in the USA, specifically in New York. He spent years working underground, had several close calls, but was never captured by the Germans, the SS anti-partisan fighters, or the Gestapo. These badges were awarded to those who actively fought against the Nazis in the Czech underground as Czech freedom fighters. A few of these Czech fighters migrated to New York City during and after World War 2.

HISTORY: The 1st Czechoslovak Partisan Brigade of Jan Zizka, initially known as Usiak-Murzin Unit, was the largest partisan unit in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (modern-day Czech Republic) during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia. After its core membership of Soviet-trained paratroopers were dropped into Slovakia in August 1944, the brigade crossed into Moravia and began operations in earnest at the end of 1944. Its focus was guerrilla warfare, especially sabotage and intelligence gathering.
