Description
American. 1920s-1940s. Copper, metal, celluloid. Indian Motorcycles are considered to be America's first motorcycle company. The company was originally founded as the Hendee Manufacturing Company and began by producing bicycles. The name was changed to Indian in 1923 and the first motorcycle prototype was built in 1901. Any items with the Indian Motorcycle name are very collectible with early advertising pieces (such as these fobs and pins) being the most difficult to find. Marked, "Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, J.J.", on the reverse of celluloid pinback. Marked, "Bastian Bros. Rochester N.Y", on reverse of Copper fob (with leather). Marked, "Robbins Co. Attleboro" (Massachusetts), on reverse of Copper fob (with coloured headdress). Marked, "Indian Motorcycle(s)", on fob with leather, winged pin, and celluloid pinback. Largest: 2" x 1.5". Celluloid pinback: 1" Dia.
Condition
All in very good condition. Fob without leather shows some enamel loss on the coloured headdress.
