Description
Handwrought entirely of copper and painstakingly embossed and engraved throughout with Classical motifs, including Alexander the Great before his troops before the city of Issus in 333 b.c.e. The interlacing border with scrollwork and heroes. Second half of the 19th century. Overall height 30 cm / 11 3/4". Minor wear. One of a limited number produced in the latter 19th century after the original, believed to have belonged to King Henri II of France (r. 1547-1559.) Condition II
