These exquisite menu card holders are a reminder of the elegant manner in which people entertained during the Belle Époque in Russia and the United States. They were used frequently by their former owner "Oatsie" Charles at her Georgetown residence. Marion Oates Charles (American, 1919-2018) known as "Oatsie" was one of the legendary hostesses of Georgetown and of Newport, Rhode Island. A pillar of the grandes dames of Washington DC, she was the last survivor of a circle in the nation's capital that included Susan Mary Alsop, Evangeline Bruce, Pamela Harriman, and Katharine Graham.
