Description: 39 of 40 volumes (lacking vol. 39). With frontispieces. Mostly (8vo), original pictorial yellowish cloth and jackets. No. 40 (12mo) with original pictorial boards. A nearly complete set of the original Tom Swift Series. Vols. 1-38 all with the original dust jackets, which began appearing in 1924. No. 40 was published by Whitman as a part of their “Better Little Books“ series, and was issued without jacket. With the exception of the noted first editions, these are early Grosset & Dunlap reprints, from 1924-1932. Tom Swift is the eponymous hero in the 38 volume Tom Swift series published by Grosset & Dunlap from 1910 to 1935, and the Whitman Better Little Books published 1939 to 1941. The stories are adventure tales with Tom‘s latest invention being heavily involved in the plot. Comprises:
