Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus, a Roman statesman, admiral, and pirate, supported Pompey the Great in the civil war of 49-48 B.C.E. Despite being on the losing side, he received a pardon from Caesar. There's uncertainty regarding his involvement in the assassination, but he fled with Brutus and was condemned as a suspected assassin in 43 B.C.E. Commanding the Republican fleet at the Battle of Philippi, his day one victory earned him the title 'imperator'. After the death of Brutus, he embarked on a piracy campaign with seventy ships. He was pardoned again and appointed governor of Bithynia but later switched sides to join Octavian before the battle of Actium, ultimately dying of fever soon after.
