Welcome to Vintage Watch Corner. First my PSA: My shop was recently selected to supply vintage American watches for a premier movie starring some major actors and a world famous director. They were looking for authentic watches that would represent the time period from 1915-1926. It is a true story of events that took place during the 1920?s.
Good day, let me introduce you to the Elgin ?Art Deco? 14 karat solid white gold. It was priced in 1925 at $40.00. To spend $40.00 on a gold wrist watch was but a dream during the depression In todays (2021) equivalent it would be $940.00 today!
Art Deco, Art Deco Solid Gold, Art Deco solid gold with chased engraved bezel. This watch has gone through a ground up restoration. I look long and hard to find extraordinary survivors like this one. They are getting much harder to find, especially solid gold watches that survived the Great Depression. This is a trifold, look at the picture and see the double hinge. This was a more expensive case to manufacturer.
1) Complete tear down service
2) NOS crystal
3) Hand polished sold gold case
4) New 14MM black alligator band
5) Newly refinished dial by a leading vintage dial restoration company using some of the original dial templates.
What a watch, what a treasure to own. This shows as brand new. For a watch that is 96 years young it?s is stunning. It has been carefully restored back to its original glory. It is remarkable that it has not been melted down, what a true survivor.
Lets talk about this most unusual dial. It is one of the few I have run across that does not have a second hand. I like the look, it makes a definitive statement. The dial and hands has had the old luminous removed and safe luminous material applied.
Notice the chased bezel, this is really when the Art Deco connection comes home. One has to appreciate the longevity of this time piece. It survived the Great Gatsby era, it survived the great melt down during the worst economic financial crisis in this countrys history. It has many stories that will never be told. Think about was has occurred in the last 96 years. Look at the corners of the case, notice they are crisp, the engraving is well defined, this is a case that has been taken care of.
The case is small by today?s standards, please keep that in mind. This would be suitable for a person who appreciates design history, male or female. Look at the picture that references a quarter of size reference.
The case measures 23MM from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock
Lug to lug it measures 36.20MM
