Description
Sixteenth Century Persian Carpet Fragments Iran c. 16th century, two fragments from the same carpet- an early Persian rug from the Isfahan region. The weave is extremely fine, and we suspect the foundation could be silk. It is also possible that the white highlights on the pile are cotton. This rug bears some structural and design similarities to other pieces from the so-called 'Salting Group.' The very finest quality Persian weaving. Rare as a hen's tooth. Some condition issues. Provenance: The Jim Dixon Collection 1 ft. 7 in. x 5 ft. 7 in. and 1 ft. 7 in. x 3 ft. 9 in.
