DESCRIPTION: (2 Pc) Pair of Thai bronze statues with gilt details depicting: one female and one male figures, both figures with a fish tail instead of legs. They represent Thai folklore figures: Suvannamaccha and Macchanu.
Suvannamaccha (literally "golden fish") is a daughter of Tosakanth who appears in Thai and other Southeast Asian versions of the Ramayana. She is a mermaid princess who tries to ruin Hanuman's plans to build a bridge to Lanka, but falls in love with him instead and they conceive a child: Macchanu.
