Giovanni (Gianna) Inclimona Vasari (Italian, active 1975 to present). "Ducale Chess Set" in gilt and silvered bronze, late 20th century. Edition 121 of 200. Accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity. A fabulous complete chess set by La Bottega del Vasari named the "Ducale Chess Set" and comprised of 32 gilt and silvered pieces with a green and white marble board. Each piece is rendered with remarkable detail and depicted as a Medieval character, the kings shown quite young and the knights with wings on their helmets. The marble board is supported by 4 horse-shaped feet and held in place by an openwork periphery of scrolling floral motifs with birds and putti. The title "Ducale" may indicate that the rooks are modelled after the Palazzo Ducale in Venice or a Palazzo Ducale of another city in northern Italy. An elaborate and rare example! Size of largest (king): 0.875" L x 1.125" W x 3" H (2.2 cm x 2.9 cm x 7.6 cm); of board: 13.675" L x 13.675" W x 3" H (34.7 cm x 34.7 cm x 7.6 cm)

The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity reads: "La Bottega del Vasari was founded by Gianna Inclimona an artist who traces his ancestry to the renowned 16th Century Italian Renaissance artist and architect Giorgio Vasari. Begun in 1975 as a workshop in Carnate (MI) La Bottega del Vasari specializes in creating artistic statues of historic figures as well as chess sets and pieces which reproduce glorious armies and battles of the past. All work is carried out by hand by skilled artisans who continue to use the old, traditional methods which have been handed down through generations. The end results are signed collector's items which are finished with gold and silver and accompanied by this certificate of guarantee."

Each piece and horse foot of board has protective felt on base. All pieces are intact, and set has excellent detail throughout. Marble board is removable from stand.
