Cette poupee qui se voulait etre une evocation du fameux modele Ruppert britannique d epoque est une piece historique liee tant a l histoire du debarquement qu a celle du cinema. En effet, bien que son effet reel sur les troupes ennemis n ait pas ete tres efficace, sa conception et son utilisation reste emblematique de l inventivite des allies pour les combats du D-Day. Elle est devenue legendaire grace au film "Le Jour le plus long" sorti en 1962. Cette poupee est l une des deux seules poupees originales du film realisee specialement pour la scene du "briefing" ou l officier anglais explique aux eclaireurs "pathfinders" parachutistes britanniques de la 6eme Airborne Division le fonctionnement de la poupee et ses effets quand elle touche le sol. Cette scene presente la poupee pour la premiere fois a l ecran. Sur les deux premiers modeles de poupees realises, les bras sont articules et le casque est demontable, contrairement aux autres modeles presentes plus tard dans d autres scenes du film, qui sont realises en un seul bloc, s agissant d un surmoulage du premier modele. Au total pour les besoins du film, 80 poupees monoblocs furent realisees pour les scenes de largage par avion. Seules deux modeles articulees, dessines par Charles-Henri Assola, furent fabriques pour le film. Charles Assola a ete l un des grands createurs francais d accessoires pour le cinema, en charge avec son equipe technique, de la fabrication des effets speciaux pour le film (il sera en charge egalement par la suite de tous les effets speciaux du film "La bataille des Ardennes"). Assola etait un passionne d histoire militaire contemporaine et il avait conserve apres le tournage, les deux modeles de poupees "Ruppert" utilisee pendant le film. Celle que nous presentons aujourd hui est l une des deux. Il s agit donc la d une piece emblematique du cinema mondial, le film "Le Jour le Plus Long" reste encore a ce jour la reference cinematographique absolue sur l histoire du debarquement Allie en Normandie. Accessoire provenant directement de la famille Assola. On y joint une photocopie de l attestation d Assola sur cette piece ainsi qu une photo de la fabrication de la poupee dans l atelier d Assola en 1961. Etat II+. This doll, which was intended to be an evocation of the famous British Ruppert model of the period, is a historical piece linked to both the history of the D-Day landings and that of cinema. Although its actual effect on enemy troops was not very effective, its design and use remain emblematic of the inventiveness of the Allies in the D-Day battles. This doll is one of only two original dolls in the film, made especially for the ‘briefing’ scene in which the British officer explains to the British paratrooper ‘pathfinders’ of the 6th Airborne Division how the doll works and what happens when it touches the ground. This is an emblematic piece of world cinema, and the film ‘The Longest Day’ remains to this day the absolute cinematic reference on the story of the Allied landings in Normandy.
