of inverted breakfront outline, the rectangular top with a moulded brass edge above three sprung frieze drawers above a pair of recessed central cupboard doors enclosing a shelved interior, flanked by further cupboards enclosing small drawers labelled with inlaid alphabet letters, raised on short scrolled feet; the whole profusely inlaid with brass arabesques, anthemion and foliate scrolls, signed by the cabinet maker ‘Eliezer Porter Cabt Maker Lincoln/ May 1820’

Note: Eliezer Porter's death is recorded in Lincoln in 1822 at the age of twenty-seven. The lack of other pieces of other documented furniture signed by this cabinetmaker could be explained by his early death, two years after the date inscribed on the present lot.
