Description: Serial #62. This watch was passed down throughout the Allen family, once owned by Stephen Allen who was mayor of New York city in the 1820 and a senator in 1832. Stephen Allen was born in colonial America in 1767 and met his demise aboard the Henry Clay steamboat when it caught fire. News accounts found on a WikiTree article account that Mr. Allens body was quickly recovered and that they found on his person a gold watch hands stopped just after 3 o'clock; a bunch of keys, $34 in bank bills and many more items. This watch is unusually marked at 19K and we XRFd it and it is actually 19.4K, it was brought into our facility by a gold liquidator and we have saved it from the scrap heap due to its historical value. Without the movement, crystal and springs this watch weighs 64g and we start the bidding at scrap to continue saving it from the scrap heap. But that's not all, this watch says it was manufactured by S.W. Benedict, we suspect that the epoch may be English since it is a chain driven lever timepiece and it even has a diamond cap jewel.
