TIFFANY & CO.: AN 18K GOLD DRESS SET
A partial set comprising a shoe brush, shoehorn and a rectangular lidded case, all monogrammed 'M.E.B.' in matching engraved lettering, all signed Tiffany & Co., all with maker's mark M, brush no. 3342, horn no. 8686 and 2639, case no. 7969 and 25800, with two signed pouches, brush measures 7 x 2 in., horn measures 8 1/8 x 1 3/4 in., case measures 5 1/4 x 1 3/4 in.

A family full of entertainment history, the Gould & Brettauer jewelry collection highlights the lives of Aunt Margarete Mosheim Gould and Father Erwin Brettauer.

Margarete became a prolific actress in the 1930s taking the German and English stages by storm and befriending other major influences in the scene including Marlene Dietrich and Max Reinhardt. In the late 1940s she married American Industrialist and financier Howard Gould in London.

Erwin Brettauer began his life in Germany and built his family fortune by founding the Bank on the Banhofstrassein Switzerland. Throughout his life he continued to invest in Weimar German movies but he is most well-known for his 1942 purchase of the Chateau Marmont in Hollwood where he actively changed the segregation polices of this hotel and influencing others in the area.


OVERALL CONDITION:
Metal stamped and tested for 18k gold; superficial wear in the form of minor scratches; brush is missing four (4) bristle bunches, and much of the paint across its wooden base has rubbed away; overall good condition.
