The painter Rudolph Richly was born in OEdenburg in 1886. Except for a year of studying at the academy in Budapest, he was self-taught. In 1921 he moved to Vienna. In 1928 he became a member of the Wiener Bruecke, in 1947 he was president of the Community of Visual Artists, in 1948 he was a founding member of the new Hagenbund, in 1952 a member of the Vienna Secession and in 1969 a member of the Burgenland artists' group. His painting was strongly based on the paintings of French artists such as Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard and Marc Chagall.His works have been presented in many international exhibitions and in 1972 the Burgenland State Gallery in Eisenstadt dedicated a personal exhibition to him.
