Description
PISTOL AND ACCESSORIES. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 1001719. Bbl. 5" with matching drawing number plus "PM". Obtained by Air Force 20 Aug 1987 and issued to Brigadier General Robert E. Preston on "266th day of 1987" (Aug. 23rd) and bought by BG Preston on 13 July 1990 upon his retirement. R. E. Preston was born in 1932 and enlisted 28 June 1949 with the Ohio Air National Guard in the 55th Fighter Wing. He became Assistant Adjutant General 1 July 1983; he passed away in January of 1995. Matte finished pistol with matching drawing numbers on barrel, slide (additionally marked "PM"), frame and hammer. Fixed sights of squared post front and corresponding notched rear; both with a single white dot. Fancy, nicely grained and checkered walnut grips with Air Force medallion in right grip plus metal oval on left (appears to be polished stainless) engraved with "ROBERT E. PRESTON". Behind left grip is bar code sticker that also has pistol serial number. Pistol infromation obtained from Robins AFB in GA. MAGS: 3 factory 15 rd. with alloy followers and alloy push button bases. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: multiple documents supporting above info to include letters and emails to Edward Meadows (noted author and collector). Items include a history of the pistol and of BG Preston as obtained through the USAF. Additional paperwork supports the purchase ($179) of leather belt and holster set plus a hang tag for pistol as receiver by the AF. Notice letter of recall sent to Preston's home address because of slide failures plus multi-paged "fact sheet"; missing page 2, with many photos of Preston plus Ohio Air National Guard photographic book summarizing years 1927-1987. Original box for pistol with paperwork to include multi-lingual factory manual plus US Service Manual with "Preston" inked in cursive on front. Box label is torn in its mid section and numbers under remaining bar codes are black marker covered. Optional black leather holster rig: Velcro adjustable belt (G110), holster (G100) and dual magazine pouch (G115) with buckle marked "1902 USA GENERAL OFFICERS BUCKLE" (on back); all items by Bianchi (part numbers in parenthesis) yet back of holster has "M-12", drawing numbers and "CATHEY ENTERPRISES, INC.". All accessories are near excellent and belt presently adjusted for about 36". CONDITION: all aspects near excellent including bore and grips; appears unfired. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (24-709/NW). MODERN. $5,000-7,000.
