Item Details
Description
A 1960s Hofner 470 E2 archtop guitar, serial #H234/4234, natural finish. Owned and played by Randy Bachman, who has sold 40 million records worldwide as a member of The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and as a solo artist.
Appears to be a late 1960’s Hofner 470 E2, notable for its “Lillies of the Valley” headstock inlays, control layout, rectangular switch plate on the upper bass-side bout, and pickups. 11-piece laminated, heavily flamed maple neck with mother of pearl Hofner and Lilly inlays on the face of the headstock. A bound 21-fret ebony fretboard with mother of pearl bowtie inlays. Carved spruce top with bound f-holes, flame maple back and sides, multi-ply binding throughout. Gold plated harp tailpiece, adjustable bridge, two gold-plated pickups, selector switch, and three controls for volume and tone. Number scratched onto tailpiece. Elaborate leaf inlay on back.
Of this 470, Randy offers, “This is one of my prized early guitars. I had this real early on because of the Beatles. But if you’re a real big player you wanted this golden Hofner because it was really a thing of beauty. Just the workmanship on the back of the binding, the way it is put together here, it’s just so solidly made. It’s quite an incredible, beautiful piece.”
Includes hardshell case.
