Item Details
Description
.50-70 caliber, 22.25" barrel, NSN. Bright finish with walnut stock secured by spring-retained barrel band. Blade front sight with 1870-type ladder rear sight. Top of bolt marked with two-line Remington address and patent date, left side of receiver marked " U.S./SPRINGFIELD 1871". Wrist under sling bar marked with correct " ESA" cartouche, additional " AL" stamp rear of triggerguard. Good condition overall. Most of the original blued finish has thinned to a gunmetal gray patination with some salt and pepper oxidation throughout. Stock has some handling marks and blemishes. Action is functional with a good bright bore showing visible edges to rifling. A desirable example of this rare experimental carbine of which just over 300 were made.
