Yu Feian, Flowers and birds. Hanging scoll.Yu Fei'an (March 22, 1889 - July 3, 1959) was a Chinese painter. His original name was Yu Kuizhao, but later he was renamed Yu Zhao. His courtesy name was Yangshu, his alias was Fei An, and he was also known as Xianren, Wenren, and Laofei. Originally from Penglai, Shandong Province, he was born in Beijing. He was a painter and calligrapher since childhood. He entered a normal school in 1912 and later taught at a private normal school and the private art department of North China University. He also serves as the instructor of the Chinese Painting Research Center attached to the Antiquities Exhibition Center. Since 1935, he has specialized in meticulous flower-and-bird painting. After 1949, he successively served as a researcher at the National Art Institute of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, vice president of the Beijing Chinese Painting Research Association, and vice president of the Beijing Academy of Painting. His works include "Magnolia and Oriole", "Pan and Persimmon Picture", "Peony and Pigeon", etc. He is the author of "Non-Dark Ink", "Yilan Ji", "Research on Chinese Painting Pigments", and "How Do I Paint Flowers and Birds".
