[KING, Martin Luther, Jr. (1929-1968)]. Press photograph of Dr. King being attacked at the Hotel Albert in Selma, AL. 18 January 1965.
11 x 14 in. silver gelatin photograph (some creasing throughout, edge/corner wear). Print retouched, with some cropping notes. Verso with ink stamps and newspaper clipping dated 19 June 1865, captioned, "Dr. King's head hits counter as hands reach to restrain assailant. Unidentified woman at left ducked as Jimmy Robinson threw a punch that landed on King's cheek."
Dr. King was attacked while trying to register at the Hotel Albert by Jimmy Robinson, a member of the National States Rights Party, on 18 January 1865. This was the first Freedom Day in Selma attempting mass voter registration.
