Heavy wear to spine rendering title "Times and Seasons / Vols. 5 & 6" nearly indecipherable. Text toned with some spotting, light soil, and handwritten notes from unidentified hand scattered throughout. Inscribed by owner on front free end paper "Silas M. Pack's Book / Bought in / Salt Lake City / December 20th 1882 / Price $3.00."

[With:] Small personalized calling card identified to "Sarah A. Pack" bearing handwritten inscriptions on verso.

"The Times and Seasons" was the official newspaper of the L.D.S. Church, and was highly influential amongst the Mormon faithful. Silas Mosher Pack (1849-1932) was the son of John Pack, a Council of Fifty member and one of the original 143 pioneers of Utah. A veteran of the Black Hawk War, Silas Pack spent his life in service of the Mormon faith and occupying numerous positions within the church. He married Sarah Amelia Lambert Pack (1853-1928), who crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the ship that brought the first company of emigrating British Saints to America, in 1874. The couple would have ten children and, outside of Missions to other states, would remain in Utah until their deaths.
