East Asia, China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 907 CE. A wonderful pottery candlestick holder in a form resembling a stemmed goblet adorned by relief decoration of 2 phoenixes, all enveloped in a warm marigold-hued glaze - known as "tea dust glaze" due to its speckled appearance. Size: 2.4" Diameter x 5" H (6.1 cm x 12.7 cm)

A few chips to rim, as well as some surface wear as shown. Otherwise, intact and very nice with good remaining detail in relief decoration and heavy encrustations to foot. Earthen deposits in some recessed areas.
