Description
Rene Lalique (French, 1860-1945). "Soleils" art glass vase, ca. 1936. Signed (acid etched) "R. LALIQUE FRANCE" on underside. A molded frosted glass vase with a clear rim and relief concentric flower petals or sunbursts, radiating outward along the outer sides. Designed by Rene Lalique, a French master jeweler who was famous for his luxury glassware of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. All sitting upon a flat base that is acid etched "R. LALIQUE FRANCE." Size: 6" Diameter x 9" H (15.2 cm x 22.9 cm)
Rene Lalique studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs de Paris and worked as a designer for jewelers in the 19th century prior to establishing his own atelier. In 1900, Lalique exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in Paris thus establishing himself as a master jeweler. He went on to concentrate on glassmaking, creating striking bowls as well as perfume bottles and other vessels, embellishing his forms with intricate reliefs. In 1921, Lalique built a glassworks factory at Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace.
