This piece is one of the first Espace Line Watch Collection by Pierre Cardin handcrafted with Jaeger Mechanical Movement presented and sold only in Pierre Cardin Ateliers between 1971 and 1973. This model in particular is one of the rarest of the Espace Series, produced in few pieces with discontinuity.
After designing collarless suits for the Beatles in 1963 and Nasa Spacesuits in 1970, Pierre Cardin launched his very brief Espace Watch line in 1971. Cardin was an O.G. of the space-age set along with Andre Courreges, Mary Quant, Rudi Gernreich, and Paco Rabanne, all creating clothing for the future where you'd be accompanied by your best friend and confidant, Barbarella. Made of metal blocks, lucite cubes, layered disks, contouring arcs, smoky crystals, bold, extremely chic unusual one-of-a-kind stripes or flying saucer-shaped futuro domes, most pieces are very rare and with many unearthed prototypes and scarce models they're a challenge to find. Last but not least all Pierre Cardin's Espace are mechanical watches fitted with handwound Jaeger FE-68 movements.
This piece in particular is fully functional, in excellent condition, controlled and adjusted in our Atelier: it keeps time perfectly.
It comes from the legacy of one of Pierre Cardin's best friends.
