Description
After Giulio Romano (Italian 1499-1546) "The Battle of the Milvian Bridge" (Pons Milvius) depicting the clash of the Emperor Maxentius and (later Emperor) Constantine at the Tiber river, the angels above represent the vision of God's protection that came to Constantine the night before the battle. Signature not found. Oil on canvas laid on board, in a Neoclassical style giltwood frame. The original fresco is located in the Sala di Costantino of the Stanze di Raffaello (Rafael rooms) at the Vatican and was most likely created under Rafael's direction circa 1520. Romano was a student of Rafael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino) and was active during the Renaissance with his expressive depictions in Mannerism movement. [Art: 33" x 79"; Frame: 42" x 87"]
