Description
Ancient Egypt, Second Intermediate Period, 14th to 17th Dynasty, ca. 1725 to 1550 BCE. A hand-carved white steatite scarab set between the terminals of a bronze ring shank. The minimalist insectile features on the topside pale in comparison to the preservation of the finely incised underside exhibiting a reared uraeus cobra below the Deshret, or Red Crown of Lower Egypt. Size (ring): 0.96" W x 1.06" H (2.4 cm x 2.7 cm); (scarab): 0.77" L x 0.57" W x 0.35" H (2 cm x 1.4 cm x 0.9 cm); US ring size 5, but band is wider.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private K.S. collection, Germany, acquired in the art trade from 1970 to 2000
