Probably Lega. 7 1/2" length, natural horn carved with geometric patterns and mounted with a carved bone human face. The edge is bound with a split cane. Black animal hair tufts to the tip and face. The Lega are known for their carved bone and ivory art of which this appears to be part. Horns such as this contained fetish material which might comprise anything from agricultural and trade items to bits of human remains. The Lega lived within the territory controlled by the great slaver Tipu tip and his successors. They paid tribute in ivory and rubber for protection from slavers.
