Biography from Setdart: Manuel Barbadillo was a Spanish artist born in an unknown year. He began his training in the studio of Jos? Arpa and later moved to the workshop of the sculptor Emilio Garc?a Ortiz. He completed his training at the School of Arts and Crafts between 1951 and 1953. Barbadillo left figuration behind definitively to concentrate on abstract experimentation during his stay in Morocco from 1954 to 1957. When he moved to New York in 1959, his work was framed within the framework of informalist abstraction, at first showing influences of abstract expressionism. However, his language soon moved in the direction of a reduction of color, resulting in sober, monochrome works, dense in pictorial matter and with a markedly experimental character. Throughout his career, Barbadillo has been a member of the Computer Arts Society and of the Artistic Council of the Gesellschaft f?r Computer Grafik und Computer Kunst in Munich, and has shown his work in exhibitions in Spain, Morocco, Argentina, Venezuela, the United States, and Germany, as well as participating in group exhibitions all over the world.
