Description
A Large Nazca Vessel Peru, c. 100 BC – 400 AD Earthenware bridge-spout vessel painted in cream, red-brown, orange, olive green and black. Depicts on both sides the principal deity of the Nazca known as the Oculate Being, with a prominent head wearing a mouth mask with feline whiskers, a long feather headdress falls over its body seen in profile to the left side of the head. A large and superbly painted example. In very good condition, rims of both spouts slightly chipped, a stable stress crack on the bottom not affecting the painted body, hairline cracks in pigments on crown of one.
