Description
This unique and elaborate long scroll features 29 birds in gouache color and is often referred to as momodori illustration. It was completed in the late 19th century. Goauche coloring was used to illustrate the birds through the scroll which is of mulberry paper. The paint has been heightened in gold in some places. It features fine Japanese calligraphy in black ink near many of the images with names in kanji or katakana. The scroll is mounted on a roller with the endpaper decorated with gold and with golden title slip endpaper backed with brocade and a silk tie.

Condition
The work is in very good to excellent condition overall. The scroll is over 38 feet long and thus has some signes of handling and wear from the age and the nature of the length. There is some toning or staining throughout, but truly a remarkable piece and a fascinating presentation There may be a few minor imperfections or faint marks to be expected with age.
