Forrest "Bud" Jennings (NJ, b, 1939), Preening Curlew
Shamong, New Jersey, circa 2000, carved and painted wood, branded FMJ.
Height 18 in.
Jennings became interest in decoys during the mid 1960s when he visited Charles Birdsall in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. He and his wife raised their family on a 1000 acre farm and he gained inspiration from the wildlife which frequented the area. Cigar Daisy and David Rhodes were significant influences yet he created a style of his own. This split tail animated curlew is a master work as it exhibits exceptional paint and form.
