Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. An elegant and hand-built pottery jar of round-bottomed form with a tapered upper body and a slightly flared rim. The wheat-hued exterior is adorned with attractive black and red patterns that form triangles, spiraling steps, and diagonal bands of checkerboard motifs that are perhaps representative of corn or maize. The decorative style of this vessel belongs to the Ramos Polychrome group, which represents the pinnacle of achievement for Casas Grandes ceramics. Size: 7.9" Diameter x 6.25" H (20.1 cm x 15.9 cm)
