Obverse: facing bust with legend, Presented to James Ross Snowden, Director Of The Mint, By His Personal Friends, As A Mark Of Regard For Him As An Officer, And Their Esteem For Him As A Citizen, in concentric lines. Paquet F. on the truncation and the date of 1859 in exergue. Reverse: United States Mint Building with inscription: The Mint Of The United States Of America Philadelphia. In exergue: Built 1832, Rendered Fire Proof 1856. This is an extremely popular medal featuring Mint Director Snowden on the obverse, and an exceptional depiction of the second Philadelphia Mint building on the reverse.
