Rare 2nd Edition historic Book titled: "The Life of Andrew Jackson, Major-General in the Service of the United States, comprising A History of the War in the South, from the commencement of the Creek Campaign, to the termination of hostilities before New Orleans, by Senator John Henry Eaton. Second edition. Philadelphia: Samuel F. Bradford, 1824." Hardcover, bound in full brown calf, measuring about 5.75" x 9" with 468 pages. Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 " June 8, 1845). Well-used worn covers, joints cracked, small losses to leather on spine, some scattered foxing throughout. Bookplate of Joel Davis Madden, Jr., affixed to the front pastedown. The value of this book lies in the exceptional historical content and the extremely detailed narrative of this great American's life. Jackson went on to become the 7th U.S. President a few years after this contemporary history was written. Author John Henry Eaton would later become a Senator of the United States. Housed in a modern custom-made quarter-leather clamshell protective case.
Joel Davis Madden, Jr., left Princeton University in 1905 and moved west to make his fortune in the railroad industry. He went on to become an executive with the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, and died suddenly in 1928 at the age of 41. His book collection, offered by his granddaughter, has not been publicly offered or privately sold in a century.
