Item Details
Description
Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
1813 "Measurer's" fee of 61/4 Cents Receipt for "Wood Drove"
September 21, 1813-Dated War of 1812 Period, Partly-Printed Document Measurer's fee Receipt Form Signed, "H Woods", Roxbury (MA), for Wood Delivered, Extremely Fine.
Receipt form measuring 5" x 1.75", at Roxbury (MA), which reads, in full: "This load of Wood drove by Mr. M Draper of Dover measureth 7 feet 1 qrs. - Measurer's fee 6 1/4 Cts."
Signed on the blank reverse "Moses Draper" (1792-1885), in receipt.
Moses Draper was the son of Josiah Draper and Keziah Knowlton of Dover, Mass. He was married in Dover on 2 Dec 1819 to Mariah Wilbor, and they had six children. He was widowed by 1850, and in 1860 appears to be living with a second wife, Annie Draper, about 15 years younger than he. His death record says he is buried in Dover, so he is without a doubt buried there in the Highland Cemetery.
