Description
Northern Europe, England, Medieval period, ca. 1220 CE. A delightful vellum leaf from an English Bible inscribed in Latin. Penned in gothic book hand, the text features black ink with alternating red and blue initials, some up to 7-lines high. The page is from the Book of 2 Kings of the Old Testament. Scrolling flourishes in hues of cobalt and scarlet adorn the margins. Size of page: 5.9" W x 8.3" H (15 cm x 21.1 cm); of matte: 12" W x 16" H (30.5 cm x 40.6 cm)

Leaf from a larger manuscript with small tear to side where it was removed from binding. Tiny perforation next to text and some light staining; none of which affects text. Otherwise, good pigments and clear text. Modern pencil markings near bottom. Fit in custom matte with protective plastic covering.
