Featured in this lot is this 19th century, onion skin, letter of recommendation for Reverend J.F. Spence of Knoxville. Major General U.S. Army Howard, Oliver Otis (1830-1909) an American soldier: at the outbreak of the Civil War he took command of a regiment of Maine volunteers. This letter is a recommendation letter with high praises for The Reverend for a post in the mountains of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. The condition of this letter of recommendation is good for its age with a slight tear to the left hand corner of the letterhead. The measurements of this recommendation letter are 10 1/2" x 8".
