A George III silver needle case, each side having engraved entwinned reed pattern, one with elliptical vacant cartouche. Hallmarked Samuel Pemberton, Birmingham probably 1791. Length 8.8cm, weight 9g.

• Texture to silver is very bumpy and uneven all over, but otherwise displays minimal surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing in consideration of age and use.
• Thin sides show some very minor nicks and dints.
• Silver is bright and shiny.
• Gauge is thin and easily malleable.
• Rims to both case and cover are uneven but fit together well.
• Rim to cover has split and is missing an area, to thin side.
• Hallmarks are partially rubbed but still just about legible.
