Item Details
Description

Two George IV silver vinaigrettes, of rounded rectangular form, both similarly decorated with engine-turned panels to top and bottom, reeded sides, and floral chased rim detail, and each opening to a silver-gilt interior and foliate-scroll pierced grille. Hallmarked Thomas & William Simpson, Birmingham 1823 and Joseph Willmore, Birmingham 1827. Lengths 3.7cm and 3.5cm respectively, gross weight 35g. (2).

Condition Report:
  • Both displaying surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing.
  • Both with some heavier wear around edges and corners, and minor splits at front corners of lids.
  • Surface wear and rubbing to areas of the decoration, causing some loss of detail or definition.
  • 1827 example with very slight dint to base.
  • Hinges to lids and grilles all appear in working order, however the lid of the 1823 vinaigrette does not close securely and opens again very easily, and the lid of 1827 example rises up again slightly when closed.
  • Both appear a little dirty inside.
  • Hallmarks located to interiors; these a little rubbed but all still legible.
  • Grille in the 1823 vinaigrette appears unmarked; other grille with lion passant.
  • Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
