Item Details
Description
Nyingxia Rug, China, Late 19th/Early 20th C., 3'11'' x 7'4'' (119 x 224 cm). Weight: 10 lbs. Wool. Unusual Nyingxia carpet. This may have been a small pillar carpet or valance. The central image is a naively drawn rendering of a mythical protector (Tse-pa) in Tibetan Buddhism. Below the central image a side view of a Ming period saddle carpet id depicted. This is wonderfully drawn and captures the essence of a carpet from an earlier time. Ex. Robert P. Piccus collection.
