Item Details
Description
Near East, Northern Turkey, Black Sea region, ca. millions of years ago. A collection of 5 gorgeous, banded agate stones collected from the Black Sea region, each polished in areas to highlight the astounding striations and colors. The largest has a cavity filled with quartz crystals known as a vug, and the swirling vermillion red and lilac hues surrounding the piece are other worldly. In ancient times agate was used in jewelry and believed to contain healing properties that could protect the wearer from danger. Agate is primarily formed within cavities from volcanic lava flows and metamorphic rocks, and the variations in layers will often result in banding - as seen here. Size of largest: 7" L x 4" W x 4.75" H (17.8 cm x 10.2 cm x 12.1 cm)

Provenance: private Van Buskirk collection, Tucson, Arizona USA

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
