Ancient Near East, The Levant, Syro-Hittite culture, ca. 2nd millennium BCE; Roman, Imperial period, North African territories, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A lovely pair of ancient vessels: a Hittite stone cup and a Roman redware jar. First, the stone cup presents a deep basin with incised lattice and dot motifs along the exterior, as well as a vertical handle that stretches from rim to base. Alternatively, the Roman jar features a broad hip, a rounded shoulder, and a turned spout flanked by a pair of looped handles. Size of larger (Roman redware): 2.8" Diameter x 2.5" H (7.1 cm x 6.4 cm)
Provenance: private Alta Dena, California, USA collection, acquired in 1973 or earlier

Condition
Stone cup has expected chipping to rim and surface wear as shown; pottery jar has nicks, pitting, and abrasions. Otherwise, both are intact and excellent with earthen deposits throughout.
