East Asia, China, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A thick glass spherical paperweight with a reverse painted scene of four beatiful courtesans. A small 0.8 inch (2 cm) opening on the base leads into the hollow orb - this is how the artisan painted the inertior - by inserting their brushes inside the mouth and carefully maneuvering each stroke while painting backwards! Size: 4.2" Diameter (10.7 cm); 6.5" H (16.5 cm) on included custom stand.
