Latin America, Mexico, Mata Ortiz, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A blackware vessel decorated with tooled zigzag motifs across the surface from rim to the circular base and signed "Beta Hernandez." The incised patterning is known as the "tejido pattern" or cloth-texture, cutting into the polished, lustrous black surface to reveal the matte layer below. Size: 6.5" Diameter x 2.5" H (16.5 cm x 6.4 cm)
